Project 2400303 - Development and evaluation of global and regional emission scenarios of air pollutants and greenhouse gases
OPEN (published on 1-02-2007)
The Climate Change Unit is looking for a scientific officer to conduct research on emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants using the Emission Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR). Duration: 36 months.
The successful candidate will have to perform the following tasks:
- Calculate present day emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants in the various world regions using the Emission Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR).
- Analysis of ongoing air pollutant and climate policies in Europe, neighbouring countries and selected world regions.
- Calculation of emission scenarios by country using EDGAR and results of various scenario models such as the POLES energy scenario model.
- Define data needs and methodological aspects of emission inventory construction needed to improve existing emission calculations for the Mediterranean domain.
The ideal candidate should have a university degree in environmental sciences, industrial engineering or similar. Postgraduate training will be an advantage. Experience (3-5 years) with calculation of emission inventories for anthropogenic sources at a national level and a sound knowledge of emission inventory guidance documentation such as EMEP-CORINAIR or UNFCCC Guidelines is required. Knowledge of uncertainty assessment of emission inventories is an asset.
Capacity to work independently and as part of a team with scientists from different backgrounds are important. Flexibility to assure quality and speed in performing scientific duties for policy analysis will be required. Good knowledge of English is a requirement. Knowledge of languages spoken in the Mediterranean area is an asset.
Interested candidates are requested to introduce their application/CV in the ELSA database (clearly writing in the field 28 the REFERENCE NUMBER of the PROJECT).
