Applications are sought for the position of a
Project Scientist (m/f)
Ref. No. AQ-2017-01
at IASS Potsdam, initially for a period of two years with the possibility of extension.
The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the work of a research group with a focus on numerical modelling of air pollution through the development of emission datasets suitable for input to atmospheric models. The successful applicant will work closely with providers of emission data at the European level as well as national and city levels to build and evaluate emission inventories suitable for studies of air pollution and climate change at scales ranging from urban- to global-scale. In addition, the successful applicant will be expected to build on these emission datasets to create emission scenarios representing technical, policy, and behavioral changes to underlying activity data, emission factors, and geographical proxies based on inter- and trans-disciplinary collaboration with other projects at IASS Potsdam and external partners.
Candidates are expected to have a PhD degree in an environmental science related field and experience working with emission data sets. Applications from candidates with a minimum qualification at the masters level combined with extensive experience working with emission data sets may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
In depth knowledge of air pollution science would be an advantage. Experience with one or more of the following types of modelling is not required, but would be desirable: air pollution modelling; climate modelling; inverse modelling; energy system modelling; agent-based modelling; integrated assessment modelling.
Candidates should be fluent in written and spoken English. Working knowledge of German would be an advantage.
The position is available from June 2017, will initially run for two years, and has the possibility of extension. The position will be filled as a contract within the public service federal employment system (TVöD).
