Projects/Programs

Projects/programs focused on earth system exchange processes and anthropogenic emissions

ACCENT Modeling
ACCENT Modeling investigates changes in the past, current and future distributions of chemical compounds and relies on emissions information for model intercomparisons, scenario developments, and climate-chemistry interaction assessments.

ACCENT Sustainability
ACCENT Sustainability co-ordinates European research to improve on the basic parameterizations and process descriptions underlying air pollution issues, including links to terrestrial and marine systems and to local air quality, with an emphasis on the costs and benefits of emissions abatement.

AIMES
AIMES seeks to achieve a deeper and more quantitative understanding of the role of human perturbations to the Earth's biogeochemical cycles and their interactions with the coupled physical climate system.

ATLAS
ATLAS' goal is to provide best dataset including all of the information needed for developing assessments (e.g., GDP, population, etc).

IGAC
IGAC addresses growing international concerns over rapid changes observed in Earth's atmosphere. The IGAC-related Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate Initiative (AC&C will contribute to the next IPCC assessment.

iLEAPS
ILEAPS is the integrated land ecosystem - atmosphere processes study which is part of IGBP and provides important data for developing global assessments of exchange processes.

SOLAS
SOLAS deals with the surface ocean-lower atmosphere interactions aspects of the IGBP. SOLAS has created a framework for bringing together data associated with individual projects. These data help provide information on the ocean-air fluxes.

EMEP
EMEP, traditionally associated with long-range transboundary air pollution in Europe, is moving more into global issues. The work on use of observations and modeling to evaluate emissions is of direct importance to the work of GEIA.

HTAP
HTAP is developing a fuller understanding of long range transport of air pollution in the northern hemisphere

NARSTO
Has recent emissions assessment reviews current emission inventory programs in the United States, Canada and Mexico

U.S. EPA
This EPA site is a clearing house for inventories and emission factors for the U.S.

NatAir
NatAir is dedicated to improving and applying methods for the calculation of natural and biogenic emissions and assessment of impacts on air quality. NatAir provides information important for evaluating VOC global natural emission data bases.

AMMA
This African Monsoon project deals with biomass burning, dust, and biofuels.

Magacities Asia
An IGAC Task, Mega-Cities:Asia will study the concentrations and chemical characteristics of aerosols and organics in a series of Asian mega-city clusters. The main objective of the Task is to investigate the contribution of pollutant emissions from mega-cities to local and regional (including Asian Pacific) air quality and to the radiation budget.

Magacities South America UMESAM: Urban Mobile Emissions in South American Megacities
The main goal of UMESAM is to promote the development of new collaborative research in the Americas, able to connect local air quality initiatives and global change issues, involving researchers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and the United States of America.
